It’s happened to you. It’s happened to me. You spend hours preparing for an interview, agonizing ahead of the interview, and hyping yourself up for the discussion. You speak with the reporter or host and the interview goes well. You’re excited. You’ve even shared with colleagues and family that you’ll be included in a news story or television segment.
But wait. The interview or story drops, and you weren’t included. Not even a portion of what you said was referenced. What on earth happened? Perhaps your comments didn’t align with the story the journalist was seeking to tell. Perhaps your comments weren’t succinct enough? Maybe the focus of the story changed between your interview and the story’s publication date. In this video, I discuss the various reasons a leader can participate in an interview yet not included in a story or segment.
